TRI-CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY INVITES TRI-CITY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN

READ FOR A LIFETIME

BUFFALO, ILLINOIS—SEPTEMBER 1, 2011—Read for a Lifetime is the first statewide reading program to target Illinois high school students.  The program is sponsored by the Secretary of State and the Illinois State Library.  The goal of the program is to promote the enjoyment of reading by encouraging students to read both classic and contemporary literature, and to reward them for their effort.

Students who participate in the program can select from a list of 25 book titles selected by the Illinois State Library.  Each student who reads at least four titles from the list during the school year receives a certificate of achievement signed by Secretary of State Jesse White.  The Tri-City Public Library has purchased all of the titles listed for the coming school year and encourages students to take advantage of these items, which includes both classic and contemporary literature.  The list contains novels, nonfiction titles, poetry and plays.  The program is running now through the end of March.

High school students are invited to an information meeting on Saturday, September 24 at noon to learn more about the program.  Refreshments will be available.  Individual may also sign up at the library during regular hours.  The Tri-City Public Library is located at 600 S. Main in Buffalo.  The Library is normally open Monday-Thursday 1 pm – 7 pm and Saturday 10 am – 4 pm.
